The Hinterland is the love child of Matty and Mikaela. A random meeting at a party, so many road trips, fishing and camping holidays to remote areas, surfing holidays their shared dreams converged on a little piece of paradise in the Byron Bay Hinterland affectionately called "the Pocket".
Fringed by rainforest, spring fed creeks, a hop skip and a jump to the surf and well located to all that the Byron Shire has to offer they found the perfect place to build their dreams.
With nothing but a falling down 100 year old dairy, and raw natural beauty Matt and Mikaela undertook this massive project! Roads, power, sewage, water, dams, fruit trees, rainforest regeneration, the restoration of the old dairy (the Love shack), the relocation of a gorgeous old farm workers accommodation building, the building of an incredible barn from recycled materials, the communal "black shed", a shipping container cabin and a shed and 6 development applications through Byron Shire Council...… its a true testament to vision, teamwork, passion commitment and bloody hard work that is what "the HINTERLAND" has become.
Their greatest pleasure is sharing this place with those that come to stay.
